Blog: Social networking sites
Visit Facebook, Twitter - and TWO other social networking site of your choosing. Compare your impressions of these 4 sites
Facebook feels like a traditional social networking site. You can add friends, which is similar to adding contacts to your phone. You can join groups and look for events.
Twitter feels less of a social networking site and more of a large discussion board. Hashtags are used to contribute to a discussion and people can retweet links and tweets.
Reddit is very similar to Twitter because they are both huge discussion forums. Users can contribute to Reddit by posting relevant links, and users can upvote/downvote posts which affect their ranking on the forum. Typically, the most relevant posts rise to the top and becomes a source of information for its users.
LinkedIn is a combination of Facebook and Twitter. It acts as a social networking website and users use their real name and pictures, but also uses hashtags to identify important discussion points. LinkedIn can be used to find connections and jobs.
