Creativity and New Media

Image
I'd like you to show me how new media fosters creativity by creating an example. This assignment is up to your imagination. Whether you want to create a YouTube video or show me snapshots of an avatar in Second Life that you created, I will leave the definition of "creativity and new media" up to you, and let you surprise me.      I used some Snapchat filters on popular NBA players. The first player has the nickname "Baby Faced Assassin," so I used the baby filter on him. These filters also work on videos, as long as the face is visible.  i

Creativity

Create a new post on your blog with the above title. In your post, cite at least one of the assigned readings and discuss how new media fosters creativity.      " Why is Disney tolerating YouTube videos that turn Bambi, Simba and Winnie the Pooh into rap stars?" asked Barnes. New media is unique because it gives the everyday people the ability to showcase their creativity in a variety of ways, such as parodying Disney icons. One way to foster creativity is using filters on photos/ videos. For example, using the puppy filter on Snapchat would give the user puppy ears, nose, and a tongue. Just last year, many users began to use the gender/ baby filters to transform their face into something new. These are just some examples but shows how new media fosters creativity. Barnes, Brooks. "Disney Tolerates a Rap Parody of Its Critters. But Why?" NYTimes , 24 Sept. 2007,                     https://www.nytimes...

Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds

What are different ways these virtual worlds can be used? What are the pros and cons? Be specific. How do virtual worlds foster creativity? What do you think the future of virtual worlds will look like?      A virtual world is exactly what it sounds like—a world that takes place in a virtual setting. There are many unique ways to partake in a virtual world. According to Jacki Morie, " You can use virtual worlds in education, in delivery services, or as an advanced form of telehealthcare that offers so much more than videoconferencing. Virtual worlds can give us social connectivity, built-in support groups, and ways to avoid ever being alone again."     Major pros of a virtual world revolve around connectivity of people. It allows people to socialize, even after the "physical world 'roaming radius'" have shrunk. It allows another option for businesses because coworkers can cooperate through virtual settings. It can be a space for those who suffer from...

Blog: Social networking sites

Visit Facebook, Twitter - and TWO other social networking site of your choosing. Compare your impressions of these 4 sites     Facebook feels like a traditional social networking site. You can add friends, which is similar to adding contacts to your phone. You can join groups and look for events.      Twitter feels less of a social networking site and more of a large discussion board. Hashtags are used to contribute to a discussion and people can retweet links and tweets.      Reddit is very similar to Twitter because they are both huge discussion forums. Users can contribute to Reddit by posting relevant links, and users can upvote/downvote posts which affect their ranking on the forum. Typically, the most relevant posts rise to the top and becomes a source of information for its users.     LinkedIn is a combination of Facebook and Twitter. It acts as a social networking website and users use their real name and pictures, but also uses ...

Blog about Twitter

Post a blog entry with the above title. How does a Twitter discussion compare to a BlackBoard Discussion? To an in-class discussion?     Because Twitter incorporates a character limit, we have to be succinct in our replies. I feel like Blackboard discussions are sometimes a bit too complex, because we are given the freedom to reply in any length that we want. Twitter's character limit forces us to express our thoughts in a few sentences.     In-class discussions are in person, so there's an element of body language. We don't have to be as clear as an online discussion because we can express what we mean through gestures and facial expressions.
